About the Board of Education
The Board of Education is elected to represent all of the people of the Paramount Unified School District. In making its decisions, the Board is guided by what is in the best interest of the entire District.

What is the Board of Education?

The Board of Education is a five-person policy-making body which operates in accordance with the laws of the State of California, Los Angeles County, and California Education Code. Each board member is elected for a four-year term; terms of office are staggered with elections held every two years. The Board of Education is responsible for approving the District's budget and adopting all policies and curriculum. The authority of the Board is as a whole and no Board member may act as an official of the District except when the Board meets in a regular or a special session.

The Board President and Vice President/Clerk are elected by Board members for a one-year term during the organization meeting held in December.

When and where are the meetings held?

Regular meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month with the exception of the month of June, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the District Office, 15110 California Avenue, Paramount (driving directions). The agenda for each Board of Education meeting is posted 72 hours in advance of each regular meeting and 24 hours before a special meeting. The public is encouraged to attend Board meetings and the agenda includes opportunities for comments from the community.
