Program Details

The Administration of Justice Early College program is a collaborative program between Compton College and Paramount Unified School District. Students are enrolled in the program in the summer between their 8th and 9th grade year, and they take a prescribed course of study during their four years of high school. If they successfully complete all courses with a letter grade of “C” or better, they will graduate with a high school diploma from Paramount Unified School District and an Associate in Science for Transfer (AS-T) degree in Administration of Justice from Compton College. There are approximately 60 college credits taken throughout the four years of high school. All of the courses are free and are offered at Paramount High School.
 
The Administration of Justice pathway prepares students for careers related to criminal justice. Such career options include, law enforcement, homeland security, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, crime scene investigators, etc. Students will have the criminal justice skills and knowledge to transfer to an advanced program or enter the field for on-the-job training. Courses include General Psychology, Criminal Procedures, Forensic Crime Scene Investigation, Legal Aspects of Evidence, and more. Students that are interested in the Administration of Justice Early College program are students who are interested in serving their community and should have a grade point average minimum of 3.0 in middle school. Additionally, the students must be highly organized, self-motivated, determined, and be willing to advocate for themselves as these courses are college level courses. Recruitment for this program begins in January for 8th grade students, and students are notified in April if they are selected to enter the program in the summer. PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES:
 
Upon successful completion of the degree or certificate program, students will be able to:
 
  • The 4th Amendment: Recognize unlawful behavior and take appropriate enforcement action properly utilizing probable cause as required in the 4th amendment of the US Constitution.
  • Criminal Justice Reports: Properly document a criminal investigation, crime analysis report, intelligence report, or other criminal justice documentation. The report will include the correct elements of the incident involved, will include the relevant facts, be accurate and complete and will be grammatically correct.
  • Interpreting Criminal Profiles and Identifying Criminal Behaviors: After being provided a hypothetical crime scenario will be able to recognize and interpret as suspicious or criminal behavior based on facts presented in the scenario.
  • Certificates, Graduation, and Transfer Students: Successfully earn a certificate/graduate/transfer to 4-year universities and will successfully compete for jobs in which they can apply legal, investigative, and communicative skills acquired in the administration of justice program.
  • The Criminal Justice System: Explain what the criminal justice system is, what role it performs in society and how its components interact with one another in achieving its goals.
