On Friday, the district proudly hosted its annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration, an evening dedicated to honoring the rich culture, music, and traditions of the Hispanic community.
The program opened with remarks from Dr. Topekia Jones and members of the Hispanic Heritage Committee, followed by words of welcome from Superintendent Dr. Lightle and Board President Alicia Anderson. A Presentation of Cultural Flags, led by Kayla Vargas and Marco Rodriguez, highlighted the diversity within the community.
Cultural performances brought the celebration to life. Hollydale Mariachi set the tone with traditional music, followed by Jaylen Perez’s performance of “Los Laureles” and presentations by students from Keppel School’s Dual Language Immersion program. Folklórico dancing was showcased by the OC School of Arts, Roosevelt School Dual Language Immersion students, and the Paramount Park Panther Folklórico. Additional highlights included Sara Vasquez Torres’ performance of “Colombia Tierra Querida.”
Closing remarks emphasized the significance of celebrating Hispanic heritage and preserving cultural traditions for future generations. The district extends its gratitude to all students, families, and staff who contributed to this meaningful event.
