Paramount, CA – July 18, 2025 – The Paramount Unified School District Board of Education is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Mayra Helguera as Director of Special Education, approved at the July 17 Board meeting. With more than 20 years of experience in Special Education, Dr. Helguera brings extensive expertise, a collaborative leadership approach, and a deep commitment to supporting students with diverse needs.
Dr. Helguera began her educational journey as a Special Education Teacher at Los Angeles Unified School District, later serving as a Behavior Intervention Case Manager and Special Day Class Teacher, Senior Program Specialist and Program Administrator.
Her career continued to flourish as she assumed executive leadership roles, most recently, serving as Executive Director of Special Education for the Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District. There, she led strategic improvements in processes, inclusive practices and student support services.
Dr. Helguera is described as a sincere person of integrity and a transformational leader, highly regarded for her depth of knowledge in curriculum and instruction, special education law, data analysis, and school operations. Known for her collaborative nature, Dr. Helguera consistently advocates for staff, students, families, and inclusive school communities.
Dr. Helguera will begin in her role on August 1.
