Paramount Unified School District Celebrates Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month Through Dance, Art, and Community

The event featured a diverse array of performances and activities that highlighted the talents and traditions of AANHPI students and families alike.

Attendees were treated to captivating performances, including dynamic Chinese lion and dragon dances, traditional Polynesian routines, and heartfelt student-authored Japanese poems called haikus. These artistic expressions provided a window into the varied cultural backgrounds that make up the Paramount community.

Interactive booths offered attendees the opportunity to engage in activities such as ukulele demonstrations and learning to make musubi or Japanese rice balls. The Polynesian Cultural Center’s booth provided educational insights into Pacific Islander traditions, while family tables showcased historical memorabilia, allowing families to share their unique heritage stories.

Support from various food vendors and school PTSAs ensured guests enjoyed a variety of snacks and refreshments, enhancing the communal atmosphere. Student leadership teams from Paramount High School contributed to the event’s success by offering additional support and engaging with attendees.

This celebration was made possible through Paramount Unified School District's Climate, Culture, and Equity Department in partnership with our ELO-P provider, Think Together, and the collaborative efforts of students, families, staff, and community partners, reflecting Paramount Unified School District’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that honors and uplifts all cultures.
