Paramount Unified Reaffirms Commitment to Protect Students by Declaring Safe Zone

Paramount, CA – On February 12, 2025, the Paramount Unified School District Board of Education unanimously adopted Resolution 24-45, formally designating the District as a Safe Zone and reinforcing protections for students and their families against immigration enforcement actions that could disrupt their education, reaffirming the District's commitment to a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment, regardless of immigration status.

Key Commitments of Resolution 24-45

  • Ensuring Student Safety: The District has reaffirmed its policies that prohibit unauthorized visits by immigration enforcement agencies to school campuses. Any such request must go through the Superintendent’s Office for legal review before access is granted.
  • Protecting Student Privacy: PUSD will continue to uphold student privacy rights by reviewing record-keeping policies to ensure no data is collected regarding a student’s immigration status or place of birth.
  • Crisis Preparedness: The District’s Crisis Team will be mobilized to assist students in cases where their parents or guardians face immigration enforcement actions, ensuring continued care and supervision.
  • Anti-Bullying and Emotional Support: PUSD remains committed to fostering an environment free from bullying and discrimination. The District will communicate these policies to staff, students, and parents, ensuring all students feel safe and supported.
  • Community Awareness and Communication: The resolution will be posted at every school site, distributed to staff, students, and families, and translated into all languages spoken in students' homes. After-school providers, vendors, and service providers will also be required to adhere to these policies.
