Paramount Unified School District's MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) program continues to empower students with invaluable opportunities to explore engineering and math in real-world contexts. This past Saturday, MESA students took part in a transformative day of learning at Long Beach State's School of Engineering, hosted by the Association of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
The event, part of MESA's Saturday Academy series, offered students a chance to interact with college students, professors, and industry professionals. Participants tackled engaging activities designed to simulate real-world engineering challenges, exploring the effects of gravity, principles of displacement, and the impact of soil and water pressure changes. These hands-on experiences provided a deeper understanding of the skills and knowledge required for civil engineering careers.
ASCE, a global leader in advocating for civil engineering excellence, played a central role in the event. Their focus on education and outreach aligns perfectly with MESA’s mission to inspire and prepare students for STEM careers. Learn more about ASCE’s initiatives at ASCE.org.
MESA students benefit from a comprehensive program that extends beyond classroom learning, including fall and winter Saturday Academies to prepare for spring competitions. These programs, supported by the CSULB MESA Center, are instrumental in fostering innovation, teamwork, and academic growth.
This inspiring Saturday at Long Beach State not only reinforced engineering principles but also sparked curiosity and excitement for the future among Paramount USD students. As they gear up for competition season, these young innovators are sure to excel and continue making Paramount USD proud.
