Dear PUSD Family,
As we learned of the guilty verdict in the Derek Chauvin murder trial this week, we acknowledge that the outcome illustrates the justice system’s response to the brutal killing of George Floyd. At the same time, we know there is still ongoing racial injustice experienced throughout our society. Some of our colleagues that have talked to me have mentioned that this verdict provides some closure, but that there are still many feelings that need to be processed and changes that need to be made to combat systemic racism in our justice system.
PUSD stands committed to disrupting systemic racism and promoting equity for the students, staff, and communities we serve. We know that many of you are still processing the emotions of fear, frustration, and trauma that the trial represents. PUSD educators will provide opportunities to help students process their feelings over the coming days and weeks. We will continue to support the social and emotional well-being of our students and staff as we share the common goal of uplifting each and every member of our diverse community.
Sincerely,
Ruben.
