MESA Program in Paramount

The Paramount MESA program is facilitated through the Cal State Long Beach Engineering Department and exists as a collaboration between our two organizations.PUSD Graduates MESA Sash

All new and returning MESA students in grades 6-12 are welcome to enroll into the program.
For information about the MESA Program hosted on each of our Middle and High School campuses contact the school offices.

Student Commitment
In the same way that student’s commit to practice and train for a school sport, a high level of commitment is also required in order to develop an applicable, yet competitive understating of mathematics and engineering.

The national MESA Charter requires students to be enrolled in higher math even as early as the 6th grade if possible. PUSD submits transcripts annually that verifies student math courses. It’s imperative that students and families are thoroughly informed of the commitment required by MESA members.

MESA Students commit to and participate in the following:
  • Regular Advisor-lead activities
  • Annual competitions (Engineering competitions range from bridge building, computer coding, to public speaking. Each student competes in a math event. Many require written reports. All projects can be entered either as individuals or by team.)
  • (4) Saturday Academies held at CSULB
  • June School Board Meeting for recognition of winners
  • University tours of CSULB, USC and others
  • The successful completion of both math and science coursework.

In the Spring students compete in their events against over fifteen school districts. Similar MESA programs hosted in our region include CSULB, CSULA, UCLA and USC. Most competition activities are hands-on, other contests require a demonstration of advanced mathematics and public speaking.
