Message from the Principal

Dear Paramount High School Students and Families,

Great things continue to happen at Paramount High School.  The most important example of this is the continued growth in the scope and rigor of our academic programs.  Last year, more students took Advanced Placement (AP) classes and took and passed the corresponding examinations than ever before in the history of the school.  In addition, we were ranked as one of the Top Schools in America by US News and World Report for the fourth year in a row.  We also recognized 789 graduates at our commencement ceremony in June, the largest graduating class in the history of the school.  Our athletic programs continue to excel with numerous league championships over the course of the year and several more teams advancing to playoffs, highlighted by our Back-to-Back CIF Southern Section Boys Soccer Team.

This coming 2011-12 school-year already promises to be another year of progress at Paramount High School.  The new, state-of-the-art Athletics Field House, complete with rooms for both our band and wrestling programs, a weight room and locker rooms, space for training and equipment, as well as classrooms and offices. This new facility is sure to be a great resource for our students and faculty.  Additionally, our new Science building is slated to open in January providing valuable laboratory and classroom space on campus.  Our site will also be participating in our WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) self-study process this year.  Students and parents will be joining teachers and staff in reviewing the instructional programs at the school, working to refine our efforts to make them most effective.  This process will culminate with a visit from a WASC visiting committee in February.  These are just a few of the advancements taking place throughout our campus that we expect will provide new opportunities for student academic growth and achievement.

I encourage all of our students to take-advantage of the new and previously existing opportunities that have been made available to them at Paramount High School. Many options are available to students through our Honors or Advanced Placement programs as well as our many Career and Technical Education offerings.  Our Fine and Performing Arts Department has strong programs in Choir, Band, Drama, Art and Graphic Design. In addition, we field 20 Varsity athletic teams in a variety of different sports and we offer numerous co-curricular programs through JROTC, ASB Leadership, Journalism, Yearbook and campus clubs. The breadth and depth of the academic and co-curricular offerings that we have at PHS ensures that all of our students have a number of avenues to enhance their educational experience.

I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that we will experience during the 2011-12 school-year and the growth that they will inspire in our students.  Each of our students has much to gain, and much to offer, at Paramount High School this year.  I know that this year will prove once again that great things continue to happen at Paramount High School.
